A series of images of Tadao Ando's Benesse House Hotel and Art Museum for Home Magazine. In all of his works on the island walls slice the earth, creating divisions and axial focal points. Ramps, stairs and vestibules fluctuate within and above the earth’s surface, exposing tantalising glimpses of ocean, sky, burnt orange embankments and lush green bush. Deep concrete chambers plummet beneath the surface, spilling into open cliff top courtyards. Through the injection of diffuse natural light, Ando transforms dark canverous chambers into ethereal soft gallery spaces.
